AROUND the CAPE
This original handscreened print is from Elton Bennetts mint condition, market-ready trust collection, circa 1972-74. The craggy cliffs, crashing wave and the nearness of the figures to the possible undertow creates an underlying mood of tension in this highly dramatic piece. The jacket colors were brushed on by hand after the silkscreens were laid down and dried. Bennett used oil based inks for silkscreening and oils for the brushwork. The colors will remain bright for hundreds of years.
Although most of Bennetts artwork was composed from sketches and he did not usually name an actual place in his artwork, most hikers who have traversed the northwestern beaches of the Olympic Peninsula agree that this scene is probably from that locale.
This silkscreen print is from Evelyn Bennetts ~Estate Trust Collection~. It has been assigned a number corresponding to the total number of prints inherited in this title: it is from the mint condition, market-ready trust collection. A Certificate of Authenticity accompanies the print.
